Liska’s Role in Jewish Spiritual Heritage
Dating back to the 1800s, Liska became a well-known center for Jewish religious and cultural life. Every year, thousands honor Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also known as Hershele Lisker, in Liska. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. By the late 19th century, the Jewish population of Liska reached nearly 3,000, enriching its cultural environment. The spiritual influence of Liska has spread to nearby areas like Kerestir, shaping Jewish communities across Hungary. Today, Liska attracts around 5,000 visitors annually, each drawn by its historical and spiritual significance.
Efforts to preserve Liska’s heritage are supported by both local and international groups.
